One week ago my seminar “Introduction to analysing linguistic action: text and discourse” was filled with exitement as we welcomed Professor Kwabena Sarfo Sarfo Kantankah from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana.

Academic Research Skills–Akademische Forschungskompetenzen bilingualis anacademic writing and research guide for students who are about to start workingon their Master’s thesis. The book is aimed at preparing students for this task re-gardless of the academic discipline and was published as a bilingual edition (Ger-man-English). Firstly, it targets German-speaking students who usually avoid textsin English and want to familiarize themselves with the vocabulary of academic re-search and writing skills. Secondly, it also aims at being a resource for English-speaking students who need to acquire the previously mentioned skills to study atGerman-speaking universities.

Review: “The Seed Keeper” by Diane Wilson
As being addicted to watching and identifying dynamics with our society, The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson immersed me fully. Over all this fiction-novel of a Native American Woman trying to friend roots, her roots, in this world again after all the crimes white society did to her family and still does, brings underlying dynamics of power to the surface.

With these words Paulo Freire throws the classical ideas of teaching overboard. Instead of teachers having the leading role in their classrooms, being the ones in control of their students, Freire wants teachers to step down from their podium and get on eye level with the students. How can we do that? How can we actually teach and get the content of our teaching into our students’ heads without being superior? Is that actually possible and worth trying? Why should we even do that? …

Review: “Singing Grass” by Ian M. Evans
I had no clue what to expect when I started reading this book. I stumbled upon it through recommendations at an online event about writing fiction. My choice to read it came from my interest in Native American history. I was hoping to encounter new information, a new perspective through this book and get challenged, as with my white socialization I know nothing about Native American history. To be honest, I found even more in this book.
